How protocol implementation can be viewed as a stackA protocol stack and protocol suite are very similar terms - they are often used to mean the same thing. However a protocol stack is the software implementation of the protocol suite which is the definition of the protocols.
A stack is used to describe how protocols work as protocols move down from the applications you are using through the 'stacked' layers down to the physical network devices that transmit the information. The TCP/IP stack is in line with the International Standard communication protocol stack called the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model. |
